Furniture. In 2023, two and a half years later, the St. Louis-based furniture manufacturer is still battling water leaks from the still-damaged roof and fighting in federal court its insurance company.

530 workers looking for work after Mitchell Gold closes

More than 533 employees in North Carolina, and about 800 total nationwide, have been laid off from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams company in North Carolina, including 440 employees at the Taylorsville site, 47 at the Statesville site, and 46 employees at the Hiddenite site, as per the company’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams has abruptly shut down its operations telling its employees by letter and email that the company has "recently and unexpectedly learned that we are unable to secure critical financing to continue business operations. "In the wake of this unfortunate development, the Company will sadly need to wind down operations and terminate the employment of our employees beginning on August 26, 2023."
