Industry collaboration, donations drive SkillsUSA state competition in California

The woodworking competitions were coordinated through a collaborative effort led by the Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers and the Architectural Woodwork Institute. Together, the organizations supported the contests by developing the project plans, sourcing material and equipment donations, preparing gifts for the winners, and recruiting industry professionals and educators to serve as judges.

The Tool Tour, introduced in 2021 in response to overwhelming demand from AWFS Fair attendees, is an immersive experience showcasing manufacturers and suppliers of hand and power tools, as well as small equipment, integral components for woodworking manufacturers of all sizes.

AWFS launches 2026 Design-it-Digital Student Competition

Owned and operated by AWFS, Design-it-Digital introduces students to the real-world constraints designers and manufacturers face in the woodworking industry. Participants respond to a hypothetical client brief by designing a wood product solution using industry-standard 2D or 3D CAD and rendering software.
