Sappi invests $25 million in coated paper woodyard
BOSTON – Sappi North America said it is moving forward with a $25 million capital project to update its Somerset Mill woodyard, located in Maine. A producer of coated and release papers as well as pulp, Sappi said it will modernize the wood debarking, chipping and chip distribution systems at the mill to reduce white wood losses and costs. and improve the reliability and efficiency with the increased production of wood chips.

Following New York deal, Zepsa adds even more millwork capacity, in Florida
Architectural woodworking firm Zepsa Industries continues to grow its operations. The Charlotte, North Carolina-based firm will open a 20,000-square-foot plant in Pompano, Florida, by the end of the year, its second expansion within a year.

Pike Lumber announces $3.4 million expansion
Pike Lumber Co. has announced plans to expand its operations in Indiana and double its production. The lumber producer is investing $3.4 million to expand and equip its Milan, Indiana-based manufacturing facility. Plans also call to add up to 15 new jobs by 2020.

Canfor's $58 million pellet plants open in B.C.
Canfor Corp. has officially opened two new pellet plants in British Columbia to produce biofuel from the company's sawmills. A $58 million joint venture with Pacific Bioenergy Corp., the Chetwynd and Fort St. John pellet plants have a combined annual capacity of 175,000 tonnes.

Chinese plywood not a threat to U.S. mills, says International Court of Trade
The U.S. Court of International Trade upheld a finding by the International Trade Commission that Chinese exports of hardwood plywood pose no threat to U.S. businesses. The ruling likely means no antidumping and countervailing duties will be assessed.
