New CD Highlights 24 Midwest Hardwoods

WEST LAFAETTE, IN – Purdue University has released "Hardwood Lumber of the Central Midwest," a compact disk that provides information about 24 hardwood species commonly found and used in the Midwest lumber industry. The disk, compiled by Purdue Prof.Dan Cassens, discusses strength, mechanical properties, species location, main uses, abundance, unique characteristics, values, color and lumber grades. Featured woods include ash, basswood, beech, black cherry, cottonwood, red and white oak, sassafras, sycamore and yellow poplar.

Industry Judges Named for Craftsman"s Challenge

NEWPORT, NC – Veneer Technologies Inc. has announced the judges for the 2007 Craftsman’s Challenge competition. The judges are Ed Brewer, president of the Architectural Woodwork Institute; Asa Christina, editor of Fine Woodworking magazine; and Paul Winistorfer, department head, Department of Wood Science and Forest Products, Virginia Tech.

NOFMA Elects 2007 Officers

Enkeboll Hires Southeast Sales Rep

CARSON, CA - Enkeboll Designs of Carson, CA, has named John Craig southeast territory sales representative. Craig has a bachelor's degree in marketing from California University and has more than 15 years of professional marketing and sales experience. New Biodegradable Composites Go to Market

ITHACA, NY –Biodegradable composites made entirely from plant materials and developed by Anil Netravali, professor of fiber science and apparel design, Cornell University, will soon be found in commercial products, according to the Cornell Chronicle. The composites are made entirely from plant fiber and a resin derived from soy protein.

Teknion Announces 1Q 2007 Results

TORONTO – Office furniture manufacturer Teknion Corp. announced the results for its first quarter of 2007, which ended February 28. The company reported a loss before taxes of $5.4 million and sales of $151 million compared to a loss of $7.5 million and sales of $134 million in the same period of 2006. Sales in the United States increased 24.9% versus the first quarter of the prior year. Canadian sales declined by 3.5%, and international sales increased 11.8%.

East Teak Offers FSC-Certified Recycled Teak and Rosewood

DALLAS – East Teak Fine Hardwoods Inc. announced it is the first North American supplier to offer 100 percent post-consumer recycled teak and rosewood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. East Teak holds its first FSC certification with chain of custody and will be the exclusive distributor of FSC certified recycled teak and rosewood in North America from Brooks Brothers UK Ltd.
