Designed by Inspatia, Forest Within is a residential retreat in Kitakaruizawa, Japan.
The home's design reflects traditional Japanese architecture and Zen philosophy, creating a quiet sanctuary that merges with the surrounding forest. Organized into a Y-shaped plan, the three main blocks — the Living Hub, Wellness Retreat, and Sleeping Wing — are connected by glass walls that embrace the principle of "borrowed scenery."
The structure rests lightly on steel stilts to preserve the natural landscape, while a palette of local materials, including cypress, offers thermal efficiency and low environmental impact.
