Pesky Pine Beetles Factor into Plywood Plant"s Layoffs

  KELOWNA, BC -- A spokesman for Tolko attributed pine beetle damage and a softened market as factors in the company’s recent layoff of 140 people at its Kelowna plywood division. Sheila Catlin, manager of corporate communications, told the The Morning Star, "The beetle has critically reduced the ongoing availability and increased costs of the high-quality logs required to support Kelowna’s veneer and plywood business."

Ligna+ Hanover Exhibit Space Going Fast

  HANOVER, GERMANY -- Organizers of Ligna+ Hanover reported that space sales for the May 14-18, 2007, event were equal to 88% of 2005’s total. With eight months to go, approximately 1.2 million square feet of net display space had been booked.
