The Composite Panel Association’s December Industry Snapshot Report indicates that North American composite panel shipments of particleboard and MDF totaled 5.511 BSF for the year 2016, a slight decrease of 0.9 percent below 2015.

KronoStar has purchased a particleboard plant from business partner Siempelkamp and will integrate it directly into the company's existing operation.

Timber Products Co. finalized the purchase of SierraPine’s Ampine Particleboard facility located in Martel, CA.

SierraPine said it will divest its two remaining composite panel mills to Roseburg Forest Products and Timber Products Co. The news was announced Aug. 11.

Uniboard will invest more than $29 million at its Sayabec plant to increase the capacity of its particleboard line. The composite panel and flooring maker also will add a thermally fused laminate (TFL) line at the plant. The investment will be implemented early next year.

SMITHERS, BC - A Northern Engineered Wood Products (NEWPRO) particleboard facility is filing a permit amendment to become a wood pellet manufacturing plant.  Particleboard production has been halted at the Smithers, BC, plant since January 2014.

Panel producer Arauco North America expands its capabilities with the purchase of Suddekor's decorative paper treating business in Biscoe, NC. It follows Arauco's announcement yesterday of a $30 million investment.

Arauco subsidiary Flakeboard's plan to purchase three SierraPine panel mills has been called off. Arauco and SierraPine mutually agreed to terminate the asset purchase agreement "due to certain objections by the U.S. Department of Justice."

Total North American production capacity of particleboard, MDF, hardboard and engineered wood siding decreased 4.4 percent from January 2013 to January 2014, according to the Composite Panel Association (CPA).
