A leading architectural millwork and casework company quietly closed its doors earlier this year after undergoing a soft close this past summer.
Island Architectural Woodwork Inc., which is thought to have officially closed in August, was ranked #148 on the FDMC 300 list of top North American wood products companies. The Ronkonkoma, N.Y.-based company reported annual sales of $50 million and employed 185 employees. It operated four manufacturing plants in Ronkonkoma with a total square footage of 110,000, according to the FDMC 300 report.
"Island did a soft close, that is, they stopped taking on work and completed what they already started, ending up with just a few employees at the end," said Jerome Nocerino, a former VP of the company. "It’s a shame though, it was a beautiful, very well-equipped factory. I’ve been in factories all over the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia, and Island had one of the best setups I’ve ever seen. Very sad."
