MONTGOMERY, MN – BioSurf has expanded its line of digitally printed laminate panel, with BioSurf 2DL Stratus. The new line offers multi-layer, textural imaging capabilities.

Similar in makeup to BioSurf’s standard 2DL laminate panels, Stratus’s technology makes printed images on the panel stand out by adding physical relief and a tactile experience when integrated into a two-dimensional design.

The texture is registered and aligned with aspects of the image.

“Stratus uses a multilayer print technology to enable custom textures that perfectly align with high definition images,” according to BioSurf president Mike Riebel. “It delivers a look and feel that very closely approaches the kind of dynamic texture found in 3D printing."

Riebel says it works especially well for retail store fixtures and hospitality applications, where texture is integral to the interior design.

Bio-based and comprised of corn and soy byproducts, BioSurf 2DL Stratus laminate is available in more than 100 standard and unlimited custom colors and textures. It can be used in a variety of surface profiles and substrates. Typical applications can include wall paneling, tables, store fixtures, interior doors and cabinetry.

BioSurf 2DL Stratus is made using a corn and soy biofilm laminated to a FSC-certified saturated paper backer, after which the composite sheet is sent through a wide-format HD printer, where a variety of standard patterns or images— or, alternatively, a custom user-supplied image—are printed onto it. After the laminate is printed and cured, a final protective coating is applied.

Made by Biovations Holdings, founded by Mike and Milton Riebel in the early 1990s, the company’s flagship product range, BioSurf, is said to be the first laminate surfacing product to be completely devoid of formaldehyde.
