The Altendorf Group, a global manufacturer of woodworking machinery, has realigned its leadership team. The new management team consists of Matthias Picker, CEO, Ingo Körner, CFO, and Vit Kafka, CSO. Matthias Picker brings international experience from the woodworking and machine tool industries and stands for customer-oriented leadership and technological advancement.

Employees at the Emporia Plywood mill in Emporia, Virginia, were told May 2 that Georgia-Pacific will permanently close the plant. Approximately 550 jobs will be impacted. Normal operations ceased immediately, and the site will be permanently closed on July 1.

The construction industry added 11,000 jobs in April, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On a year-over-year basis, industry employment has grown by 143,000 jobs, an increase of 1.7%.

Jeld-Wen plans to permanently close its door plant in Chiloquin, Oregon, resulting in 128 job losses. The plant, which manufactures custom doors and frames, will cease operations and production will be moved to other Jeld-Wen facilities. The closure is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with layoffs commencing in late June.
