HOUSTON, TX – Westech Building Products launched TruGrain, a bio-based wood substitute based on Resysta, a polymeric board product containing rice husks, mineral oil and salt.

Westech Building Products sells synthetic decking, moulding and vinyl windows, among other building materials. A unit of Westlake Chemical, Westech says its TruGrain delivers the aesthetic appeal of wood without the disadvantages like swelling, splintering and rotting.

“We are going to have the very first porch flooring product that looks like exotic or tropical hardwood, is 100% recyclable and is durable and long-lasting like foamed composites,” says Renee Havrilla, general manager of Westech Building Products, Inc.

Resysta has been available on the European market for 15 years, where it is used in furniture, decking, exterior siding, marine applications and paneling for wet rooms like baths. 

North America applications have begun to catch on. Resysta, based in Forsting, Germany,  has a U.S. operation in Chino, CA, headed by Michael Sloup. “We believe we can change the industry with this wood substitute,”  Sloup says. 

TruGrain, which is the brand named Westech Building Products has applied to its versions of Resysta, can be stained in 20 available color shade. Stains can be applied either at the factory or on the job site.

Westech built a 6’x 6’ porch in Resysta's Builders Show booth, and also showed sheets and boards, an exterior door and shower mats made with Resysta. 

The Great American Home constructed annually for the Builders Show featured decking and siding made from Resysta.
