TechShop Rallies the Pittsburgh Maker Movement with DIY Workspace

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - TechShop, a membership-based, do-it-yourself workshop and fabrication studio, will be holding a Six-Month Anniversary event on Saturday, September 7, 2013, beginning with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:00 AM at its new location in Pittsburgh’s Bakery Square. The opening is being held in conjunction with the THRIVAL Innovation + Music Festival also taking place in Bakery Square.

The Bakery Square facility, TechShop's sixth location, has been open to members since March 2013. City council member Bill Peduto, Walnut Capital’s Gregg Perelman and Todd Reidbord and Thrill Mill, Inc. cofounders Bobby Zappala and Luke Skurman will join TechShop chairman and founder Jim Newton to celebrate the early success of TechShop Pittsburgh with a metal ribbon cutting ceremony that has become a tradition for all new TechShop locations.

As part of the THRIVAL festival, Newton will give an “Innovation Thought Talk” at 2:30 PM at Google's Pittsburgh headquarters, across from TechShop.

“We are grateful to have TechShop in a city like Pittsburgh that is built on innovation, ingenuity and determination,” said Newton. “These are the very ideals that drive TechShop and the maker movement itself. Having our official ribbon cutting during the THRIVAL festival is the perfect way to highlight the community of innovative individuals who are creating the next big thing."
