FSC seeks comments on plantation standard draft

MINNEAPOLIS – The Forest Stewardship Council is accepting public comment on its draft standard, “Plantation Management, Principle 10, of the FSC-US Forest Management Standard.

In announcing the public comment phase of its standard-making process, FSC-US said, “(We are) committed to a consensus-based, inclusive and balanced standards development process and all comments will be carefully considered by the FSC-US Board.”

Comments will be accepted through Dec. 9.

The FSC standards for forest management certification are composed of 10 principles. Principle 10 applies to plantation managed forests. “There are a few indicators in Principle 1-9 that are not applicable to plantation management,” FSC-US said. “These are explicitly referred to in this draft of Principle 10.”
