Housing Market & Wood Impact Study Presented at IWF 2014Learn about the U.S. housing market and its impact on the wood products industry on Friday, Aug. 22 during IWF 2014. The biennial IWF woodworking show will be held Aug. 20-23 in Atlanta.

Entitled “Housing Markets and the Secondary Woodworking Industry – Lessons from the Downturn,” the 1:00 session will be presented by Urs Buehlmann, Virginia Tech; Matt Bumgardner, USDA Forest Service; and Karen Koenig, Wood Products.

The session identifies some of the actions and characteristics associated with firms that found success through the downturn. Information will come from recent studies, including the annual industry housing survey conducted jointly by Virginia Tech, the USDA Forest Service and Wood Products; results of the 2014 survey will be featured in the August issue of Wood Products magazine and online at WoodworkingNetwork.com.

An analysis of performance over the study’s past four years reveals gradual improvement by woodworking firms reporting positive changes in sales volume, with 58% reporting an increase. Click here to read the 2013 survey on Housing & Construction's Impact on Wood Products Manufacturing.
