Fifty-nine percent of Canadian very small businesses don't have a website; 41 percent believe they are simply too small to have one. But that could be limiting their sales opportunities, including export. "My website is like a front door to my business - which consists of one employee: Me," says Martin Byers, owner of handcrafted furniture company ThankU.ca, based in Victoria, B.C.

We had a chance to catch up with Scott Burton, Sales Manager for Royce//Ayr, during a recent trade show and he explained how cutting tools are evolving because of the industry trend to use more hybrid materials and sandwich-structured composite materials. In the sanding of wood, there is no end of interest among woodworkers, which is one reason the WMS 2015 Wood Machinery & Supply Expo is drawing thousands of registrants. The show and conference sessions run November 5-7 at the newly remodeled International Centre in Toronto.

Plans for WMS 2015, Canada’s largest event for the wood industry – the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Conference and Expo – are in full swing, with more than 125 exhibitors - including woodworking machinery, panel, hardware, and supplies - already committed to the show. WMS 2015 will be held November 5-7 at the International Centre in Mississauga, ON, just outside Toronto.

WMS organizers are putting the finishing touches on the WMS conference schedule being held in conjunction with the expo floor opening day on November 5.  The WMS “Reboot Your Business” conference will give owners of woodshops of any size an opportunity to evaluate their current business practices, shop operations and technology, identify emerging opportunities and gain insight on industry challenges.

Germany's PYTHA Lab will make the North American debut of its PYTHA 3D CAD software at the Toronto Wood Machinery & Supply Expo, November 5-7 at the International Centre. Described as a "powerful, intuitive software," the range of applications includes high end bedrooms, wardrobes and closets, or luxury-level kitchens. Current users apply it to commercial joinery, contract furniture and highly detailed bespoke joinery.

I am still trying to wrap my head around the innovations and new products introduced at interzum and LIGNA in May. It was impressive and to say that I can recall everything I’ve seen there without my notes would be a lie. All the more reason then to look forward to the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Conference and Expo (WMS) 2015 in Toronto this November.
