Cameroon is amongst the world's largest forest areas. The domestic timber industry is a key sector to the national economy and creates thousands of jobs.
Despite efforts to promote the production and use of legal timber, nearly all the timber consumed in the country is still of informal origin and therefore largely illegal.
With a target of 15,000 m3 of legal timber on the domestic timber market by the end of 2022, the GIZ "Forest & Environment" program is contributing to the promotion of sustainable development, the preservation of forests, and an increase in good practice in forestry operations in Cameroon and on international markets.
