I do a lot of painting on poplar. Currently I prime with a spray paint from Home Depot, sand, and top with a satin of gloss spray paint also from HD. Sometimes I topcoat with a clear satin polyurethane. The problem is that the surface sometimes remains tacky and it also scratches easily. I was thinking maybe an HVLP sprayer. Maybe lacquer? Any suggestions and paint specs/sources would be much appreciated.
