Walnut Veneer

I have managed to get the old and damaged veneer off of this antique table top. I have new burled walnut veneer that I want to bookend onto it for a new top. I plan to use the suction bag method to clamp it. My question is, since the top, as you can see, has a curved decorative edge when and how should I trim the veneer to fit precisely? Thanks for any help

Butt joint for 3” in round hardwood

Hello All , I am trying to repair and strengthen a cot. It has 3” round hardwood (rosewood) horizontal members that were cut in half for shipment reasons. To make it work a threaded bolt was stuck in one side and the nut on the order so both pieces screw in together. This was never a strong and precise joint and started to open up as the cot was used. You can see I screwed in a flat bracket to strengthen it but did not succeed. I am asking experienced members to advise on best course of action to butt join these hardwood 3 in round pieces.
