Industry to testify on OSHA's heat illness plan

The Department of Labor has released a proposed rule with the goal of "protecting millions of workers from the significant health risks of extreme heat."On June 16, the agency will begin a five-day informal rulemaking hearing that will elicit testimony from labor groups, and a variety of industry groups. On June 18, Betsy Natz, CEO of the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association, will provide detailed information on how the heat plan will affect the organization's members.

Port of Portland partners with Swiss mass timber company to build mass timber factory

The Port of Portland has approved a long-term ground lease with ZAUGG Timber Solutions (ZTS) to build and operate a new mass timber modular factory at the Port’s Mass Timber and Housing Innovation Campus at Terminal 2.ZTS is a key anchor tenant at the campus, where the Port is transforming a former marine terminal in Portland’s Northwest industrial area into a manufacturing hub. The campus will support Oregon’s growing mass timber industry, create new jobs and small-business opportunities, and help address the region’s housing shortage.

Hooker Furnishings' cost savings initiatives paying off

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Hooker Furnishings Corporation eported its operating results for its fiscal 2026 first quarter ended May 4, 2025.According to the company, it lowered its operating loss by $1.6 million, or 31%, from the prior year first quarter to $3.6 million, driven by "cost-saving initiatives launched in the second half of last year," and despite reduced net sales in the quarter.

ABC Supply Co., Inc., has raised $4.7 million to support Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) as part of a significant fundraising effort in May for National Military Appreciation Month and in conjunction with the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500.ABC Supply, an HFOT Platinum Partner, matched all donations up to $1 million for the month of May.
