Despite the downturn, IWF exhibitors and show managers are positioning the August 25-28 IWF International Woodworking Fair with innovative equipment, supplies and educational programs. New this year are several full-day symposiums to be held August 24, before the show opens. Of particular interest in wood manufacturing are “Selling Closets” (with the Association of Closets and Storage Professionals); “Cabinets to Countertops” (with International Surface Fabricators Association); and Finishing Technology and Sustainabilty (with FinishingIQ).

Almost two dozen technical sessions will also take place during the four days of the show, running the gamut from “Lean Manufacturing for Custom Cabinet Shops” to “LEED/Green/Sustainable Woodwork” by the Architectural Woodwork Institute. A free session on robotics in woodworking will be sponsored by the Robotic Industries Association.

Awards will go to seven of IWF Challengers Finalists. Among 22 candidates for the award honoring woodworking machinery and supplies are Challengers finalists Benz recipcrocating knife cutter (top) and Cabinotech’s quick-build Cabinotch system. August CWB will show all 22 finalists.

The IWF Challengers Distinguished Achievement Awards selection committee named 22 woodworking technologies and supplies as finalists, from 65 entrants (See June 2010 CWB, page 20). The biennial awards process culminates in the selection of seven key wood industry technologies, to be announced in Atlanta, opening day of the four-day wood industry trade show. Following are 22 finalists, listed alphabetically:
