  #1 Massachusetts furniture company to be acquired by Canadian manufacturer (Posted April 16, 2025)
Saloom Furniture, a family-owned furniture company based in central Massachusetts, is set to be acquired by Bermex, a Canadian furniture company specializing in solid wood dining furniture, storage furniture, bistro tables, and custom bar stools.

#2 85-year-old Haas Cabinet liquidating assets in 2-day auction (Posted April 20, 2025)
Founded in 1939, Haas Cabinet opened its first plant in 1944, but now, some 85 years later, the company has undergone a threat of closure, a brief reprieve, and now permanent closure. The total assets of the Sellersburg, Indiana-based company is being sold off in a two-day auction.

#3 Devastated by fire, hardwood sawmill undergoes $2.1 million rebuild (Posted April 27, 2025)
E & E Hardwoods Inc., a sawmill operation based in Kentucky that supports the local industry and lumber production industry, plans to add 37 new jobs and invest $2.1 million to expand its Bell County, Kentucky, operation following a December 2024 fire that destroyed the company’s previous location.

#4 Logging to be boosted, including in all California national forests  (Posted April 14, 2025)
National forests will soon see increased logging after the USDA released a memo directing the forest service to increase timber production on those lands. This includes logging in all the national forests in California and other national forests throughout the West, South and Midwest regions.

#5 Jeld-Wen files WARN notice, shuttering Oregon factory (Posted May 6, 2025)
Jeld-Wen plans to permanently close its door plant in Chiloquin, Oregon, resulting in 128 job losses. The plant, which manufactures custom doors and frames, will cease operations and production will be moved to other Jeld-Wen facilities.

#6 Cabinet store owner, manager allegedly defrauded customers of nearly $200,000 (Posted April 17, 2025)
The owner and manager of Affordable Kitchens and Baths, a cabinet store based in St. Peters, have been charged in connection with a fraud case involving at least 10 victims who police alleged conned the clients out of more than $200 thousand.

#7 Georgia-Pacific closes plywood factory (Posted May 7, 2025)
Employees at the Emporia Plywood mill in Emporia, Virginia, were told May 2 that Georgia-Pacific will permanently close the plant. Approximately 550 jobs will be impacted.

#8 U.S. Lumber Coalition: Canada seeks to avoid accountability for trade practices (Posted May 2, 2025)
U.S. Lumber Coalition have released comments on Canada's softwood lumber industry and trade practices:
Ongoing unfair trade practices by Canada's softwood lumber industry remain extremely harmful to U.S. lumber producers, workers, and their forest-dependent communities.

#9 Video: Take a pellet plant tour (Posted April 26, 2025) 
Renewable energy company Drax released a virtual tour of its LaSalle, Louisiana, pellet plant. The tour allows visitors to explore the plant’s operations, including the production of a wood pellet.
