Learn Lean lessons live at Wood Pro Expo Texas

ARLINGTON, Texas – How did going Lean help Hunter Trim & Cabinets (HTC) increase revenues five times in seven years?

Find out by attending Wood Pro Expo Texas, where FDMC Editor Will Sampson will conduct a live-on-stage interview of HTC CEO Dustin Hunter.

The free interactive presentation, “Inside a real cabinet shop’s lean journey,” will be recorded as an installment of Woodworking Network’s new podcast series hosted by Sampson. It is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, March 12, prior to the opening of Wood Pro Expo – co-located with the Cabinets & Closets Conference and Expo – at the Arlington Convention Center.

Hunter, a third-generation carpenter and graduate of Texas A&M University, launched Hunter Trim and Cabinet in Ft. Worth, Texas, in 2006. He began his Lean journey in December 2012 under the mentorship of Lean manufacturing guru Jim Lewis. Lewis, a former columnist of FDMC, provided periodic progress reports about what he dubbed Hunter Trim and Cabinet’s “amazing story.”

In his farewell column for FDMC in spring 2018, Lewis lauded Hunter for sustaining his commitment to Lean thinking and continuous improvement. “Every leader endeavoring to apply lean thinking can attest that without leadership commitment, lean should never be launched. To understand more about the leader’s commitment, I suggest you call Dustin Hunter, CEO of Hunter Trim and Cabinet.”

The give-and-take exchange between Sampson and Hunter will drill deeper into Hunter’s commitment to Lean:

  • Why he did it and examples of implementing Lean at HTC.
  • Some of the key lessons he’s learned during his seven-year Lean journey.
  • How he sustains Lean thinking and the drive to continually improve.

The accompanying video highlights some of the continuous improvements HTC made during the mid-point of its Lean journey in 2016.
