QUEENS, N.Y. — New restaurants, bars, businesses, and high-rise condos pop up in New York City every week. For companies that want to stand out, a lot have one thing in common: their designers and architects have chosen the same millwork shop, Axos Designs. A former investment banker, Chris Yerolemou, turned his father's small business into a thriving operation known for its ability to deliver in one of the world’s most demanding markets.
Yerolemou has carved a reputation. His family-owned millwork company has become one of the city’s go-to shops for high-end residential and commercial projects, delivering custom architectural woodwork, cabinetry, and interior detailing that reflects both tradition and innovation. From luxury residences to flagship restaurants, the firm has built its reputation on work manufactured 100% in the United States, a commitment Yerolemou considers central to the company’s identity.
“As a family-owned and operated business, we take immense pride in our commitment to quality above all else,” Yerolemou said. “Every piece we produce reflects generations of hands-on experience, attention to detail, and respect for the craft. I take pride in knowing people are eating at a bar that my company has made or seeing people enter a building that I helped design the interior of."
That dedication has fueled steady growth. What began as a small operation has expanded significantly in both capacity and reputation. The company is expected to grow triple its current space in the coming months, integrating new machinery, employees, and the latest AI tech in Queens. Axos Designs will have 40,000 square feet between two shops when the deal is finalized.
The company’s blend of old-world craftsmanship and modern efficiency is visible on the shop floor. Hand-finished pieces come to life alongside state-of-the-art machinery, such as Altendorf table saws, which Yerolemou says is a key machine in his shop. This dual approach has enabled the team to undertake increasingly large-scale projects while maintaining the hands-on care that defines the brand. From fashion brands to upscale restaurants, bars, and residential spaces, Axos is leaving its mark across all five New York boroughs.
“Investing in skilled artisans, advanced machinery, and project management systems has been essential,” Yerolemou explained. “It gives us the ability to deliver on time and with precision, which is something businesses and residential spaces can count on. My first career was in tech and finance, so when I took over my father's business, I knew I wanted to buy all new equipment and technology but still be able to say our hands put the finishing touches on all our pieces.”
That reliability has helped earn the trust of top design professionals across the city. With demand growing, the company has expanded its workforce, equipping it to handle ambitious commissions without compromising its standards. When Yerolemou took over the business from his father, the company had nearly 10 employees. Now, between the two shops, the current number stands at nearly 60.
Still, Yerolemou insists the growth hasn’t changed the company’s DNA. Every project remains a personal reflection of the values that built its foundation: integrity, consistency, and excellence.
“Our reputation comes down to quality,” he said. “It’s what has carried my father this far, and it’s what I will continue to set Axos apart.”
