Learn about increasing lumber yield through best practices in rough milling lumber and solid wood machining for small to medium woodshops.
Expert presenters will tell how to really improve material yield, in some cases just by applying very basic techniques. You'll hear tips on lumber selection, machine performance, blade and tooling selection. You'll also get insight into the differences and advantages of machines and processes that make money, and those that save money.
"We'll look at machine considerations in how to get the most bang for the buck from the lumber you buy," says presenter Aaron Brink, a product specialist with Stiles Machinery's Ironwood products. Presenter Erland Russell, regional sales manager for TigerStop, will cover basics of lumber grade selection based on application, and explain when moving up to more expensive grades can actually reduce costs - because the net yield is higher.
Cutting blades also have an impact. Cases where defects matter less than volume, for example, might call for stack cutting and using a bigger blade.
