Adrian College, SBWI form educational collaboration

ADRIAN, Mich. — Adrian College and the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute (SBWI) have formed a comprehensive partnership designed to enrich higher education through the fusion of hands-on craftsmanship and academic innovation. The collaboration aims not only to enhance Adrian College’s pre-architecture program with a design-build curriculum but also includes potential developments in business, art, career and technical education (CTE) teacher training, and other disciplines, offering students opportunities to apply classroom theory in practical, real-world settings.

Texas wood plant destroyed by fire

More than 80 fire, police, and emergency agencies battled a massive, multi-structural blaze in Pleasanton, Texas, Atascosa County, about an hour south of San Antonio. The July 26 fire reportedly began at W.W. Wood Inc., which makes barbecue-related products, including wood chips, artificial logs for barbecues, and more.

Eco-friendly foodservice manufacturer launches Green Hero Foundation

Green Hero Foundation, a nonprofit initiative funded by Restaurantware, is committed to education and awareness—helping chefs and operators make more informed decisions about the products they use and their environmental impact. Restaurantware offers more than 13,000 foodservice products, including over 3,840 compostable items, over 200 made from sugarcane, over 800 made from bamboo or wood, and over 4,700 made from kraft or bamboo paper.

Video: Robotic sanding clears bottleneck at Canadian cabinet manufacturer

When manual sanding slowed their high-end cabinetmaking business down, Cripps & Sons Woodworking of Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, brother Sam and Jim Cripps began looking for a solution to clear their sanding bottleneck. “We started cabinet making in 2009 with Jim, dad and myself,” said Sam Cripps, co-owner and vice president. "Since then, my brother and I are now the owners. We built a new facility in 2022, and have taken Cripps and Sons Woodworking from where it was to where it is today.”
