GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — Convicted murderer Larry Bollin faces a second life in prison sentence after agreeing to a plea deal made by Grimes County District Attorney Andria Bender. Bollin pleaded guilty to attempted capital murder of police officer Juan Tovar on Friday, July 25.
Bollin was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison July 21, 2025, in Brazos County for the 2021 murder of his coworker Tim Smith.
Bollin's shooting rampage happened on April 8, 2021, at Kent Moore Cabinets. Bollin, according to reports, arrived at work with a handgun concealed in his lunch cooler. Following an afternoon break, Bollin pulled out the gun and fired at least 20 shots at Smith without warning, killing Smith and injuring four others. He then fled the scene.
According to KBTX, Trooper Juan Tovar found Bollin at his family home in Iola. When he arrived, Bollin fired at now-Sergeant Tovar’s vehicle, shooting him in his eye. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later lost his left eye.
As part of the agreement, Bollin is required to plead guilty to his remaining Brazos County cases, and he waives his right to an appeal on all charges.
