Caye to open new furniture plant in North Carolina

NEW ABLANY, MS -- New Albany, MS-based Caye Home Furnishings has announced that it will open a new furniture plant in Taylorsville, NC.

The company plans to invest $1.4 million in the plant and will receive a $250,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which is designed to attract companies to the state to create jobs.

“We chose to locate in this area because of the outstanding workforce and business environment,” said Wayne Stewart, Caye’s executive vice president and chief financial officer.

The company plans to hire 128 employees at the new plant, which is scheduled to open in mid- to late-October. The average salary will be $30,142 a year, not including benefits, according to a statement from North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue.

This will be Caye’s fourth manufacturing facility in the United States; it currently has plants in Mississippi, Florida and Star, NC. The company also has two manufacturing facilities in China.

Caye, a manufacturer of living room furniture and case goods, makes products that include the Stratford and Stratolounger brands.

According to WCNC-TV in Charlotte, NC, Caye has seen growth in the Northeast, and the Taylorsville plant will assemble furniture that will serve that market.
