WMS 2025 preview video: Veneer Grading Seminar

TORONTO — Learn about the science and the perfect art of veneer grading at the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Conference & Expo.

This half-day seminar is designed specifically for professionals involved in the manufacture of furniture, cabinetry, and custom woodwork. Attendees will gain valuable insights from industry experts and learn how to evaluate veneer grades, identify high-quality materials, and make confident, informed selections for their next project.

The session is slated to take place on Wednesday, November 12, and repeated on Thursday, November 13. It will feature presentations by Fred Mitchell, Value Stream Manager, materials for Columbus Forest Products and Greg Simon, Face Sales Manager for Veneer Technologies.

Mitchell began his veneer career nearly 20 years ago with Columbia Forest Products after he completed his Wood Science and Business Administration degree at North Carolina State University. As Value Stream Manager - Materials at Columbia Forest Products, Mitchell and his team collaborate with raw material suppliers and sales and production teams to ensure that the raw materials Columbia uses daily meet and exceed quality standards, thereby meeting customer needs.

Simon holds a degree in Small Business & Entrepreneurship from East Carolina University. After graduating in 2010, Simon worked in sales at a veneer company in North Carolina until 2018. Since then, he has been Veneer Tech’s Face Sales Manager, where he works with distributors and end users to ensure product quality, availability, and customer satisfaction.
