Making Your Finishing Department Profitable

This presentation is intended for small to medium sized valued-added wood products manufacturers who apply a manual finish onto their product. Participants will learn about the various types of finishes finishing techniques, tools and tips on improving the profitability of the finishing department. 
 
Far too often in small to medium sized companies, the finishing department is overlooked when capital investments are being considered.
 
This session will cover the basics to improving the consistency of the finishing process and discuss methods to improve the quality. Not only will equipment be discussed, various in-house quality control tools and examples will be explained that will have immediate benefits to your finishing department’s profitability.  
 
About Jason Chiu
Jason Chiu is a quality control certification specialist and extension trainer at the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing, at the University of British Columbia.  Jason holds a Bachelors degree in Wood Products Processing from UBC.  He has worked for several secondary wood products companies performing; quality systems implementation, training, and process layout and design.  Jason has conducted audits of several industrial finishing facilities and performed hands-on finishing training, as well as developing a comprehensive range of finishing testing services for industry.
