Video: Making a wood spiral Christmas tree
Christmas tree from scrap

You can make a striking Christmas tree from scrap shop cutoffs.

Every woodworker struggles with what do with all the scrap cutoffs from every project. Efficiency minded lean manufacturing advocates would have you immediately discard the scraps as waste or "muda" in Japanese. More commonly, thrifty woodworkers are sure all those pieces too big to throw away will come in handy some day. Well, maybe today is that day.

Totally Handy, a YouTube channel, recently featured a video demonstration of how a pile of wood scraps can be turned into a distinctive holiday decoration, a Christmas tree formed by the spiral arrangement of decreasing size sticks. It's a simple cut-drill-assemble-arrange process. See what you think.

Of course, what do you do with the tree/scraps after the holiday season? No help there.
