Adding 2.5” to wooden barstool legs with epoxy resin? Would it work?

I have seen an article where you can add 1/8” of epoxy resin to outdoor furniture to prevent rot. I need to extend the legs of some barstools 2.5” so it better fits our bar counter. Would this process work for thicker than 1/8” if I made a mold? I could also add a rod to further stabilize the strength of the leg?
