Making the move into architectural millwork: How one cabinetmaker did it

Rick Thaler knows firsthand how one business path can diverge into another. The president of OGB Architectural Millwork, Thaler has been in the woodworking business for almost 40 years. "I started as a hippie carpenter with a 450-square-foot shop making custom furniture and kitchen cabinets and evolved, through trial and error, into a business that does entirely commercial cabinet work and architectural woodworking, with 85 employees, a 30,000-square-foot plant and $10 million in annual revenue," he said.

Milesi, Hunter Coatings reach distribution agreement

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Hunter Coatings has announced that it is now the distributor of the complete line of Milesi Italian wood coatings. The new distribution agreement marks the first time these two companies have partnered to provide these Italian technology wood finishing products to professional woodworkers, cabinet makers, and millwork producers.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Nascar Hall of Fame is only steps away from the Charlotte Convention Center, home of Wood Pro Expo Feb. 14-16. The high-tech venue, designed to educate and entertain both race fans and non-fans, opened in 2010, and includes artifacts, hands-on exhibits, a theater, Hall of Honor, Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant, Nascar Hall of Fame Gear Shop, Nascar Productions-operated broadcast studio and an attached parking garage on Brevard Street.
