HARRISBURG, SD — Showplace Cabinetry, an American-owned manufacturing company, celebrates its 25th anniversary. Showplace Cabinetry combines craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainable practices since its founding on June 21, 1999.
"Reaching this milestone is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, as well as the trust and support of our customers and partners," said CEO Bill Allen. "We are incredibly proud of what we've accomplished over the past 25 years and are excited about the future as we continue to innovate and grow."
Allen added chief executive officer to his title, following the December 31, 2020, retirement of Paul Sova, one of the founding partners of the South Dakota cabinet manufacturing company.
Allen assumed the duties of president in January 2020, after serving as chief operating officer and long-time vice president of manufacturing for Showplace Cabinetry.
Allen is a Harrisburg native who is proud of the growth of his community and the company that has become one of its largest employers. He was recruited by founding president and CEO Tony Bour nearly 20 years ago to manage materials and manufacturing, and quickly moved into a leadership position, playing a key role in innovating the product and several manufacturing processes Showplace uses today.
“Showplace Cabinetry has always been a manufacturer that values new ideas and innovation,” Allen said. “Everyone here has a passion for excellence and a willingness to go the extra mile to craft the finest cabinetry in North America.”
Showplace operates two production facilities in Harrisburg, S.D., one focusing on framed construction and the second on frameless. It also operates a door plant in Beresford, S.D., about 30 minutes away. While each factory produces different things, one common denominator is a buzz of activity, as workers — employee-owners — manufacture, finish, and assemble products to meet burgeoning demand. Everyone has their role; as many as 250 people can play a part in building a single cabinet.
While 2021 was a record-setting year for the company, with $94 million in sales, that record was short-lived. Through its sales outlets, including more than 1,000 dealers and distributors across the country, it topped $140 million in sales. In this year’s FDMC 300, the company ranked #76, moving up 17 notches from the previous year.
The company will invest $25 million over the next two years to expand operations at Showplace’s frameless production facility. The plant will grow from 76,800 square feet to over 180,000 square feet, making space for new state-of-the-art equipment and increased production capacity.
