Leggett & Platt to Close Chicago Heights Facility, Cut 325 Jobs

CARTHAGE, MO — Leggett & Platt Inc., a manufacturer of store fixtures, is closing its Chicago Heights, IL, facility, a move that eliminates 325 jobs starting in mid-January, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.

The closing of the store fixture operations is part of a broader restructuring strategy announced last month to shed $1.2 billion of Leggett & Platt’s under-performing assets. The company is shutting down four of its 14 store fixture facilities as part of that strategy, a spokeswoman for the company said.

The closing of the Chicago Heights facility was disclosed as part of the Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. The state law requires companies to provide at least 60 days notice of plant closings or large layoffs.
