Fire-resistant paint to be tested

Researchers from  UC Berkeley Disaster Lab plan to conduct a structural burn test in Korbel, California, on June 5. According to the school, "this is a unique opportunity for those interested in the area to witness a field test of FireCoat on small sheds constructed with typical California timber materials."

“California faces an increasingly severe wildfire crisis, and it has been crucial for researchers, scientists and manufacturers to work together to build the resilience of our homes and communities,” says Thomas Azwell, PhD, the Founder and Director of the UC Berkeley Disaster Lab.

The lab will test a fire-retardant acrylic paint that was created to protect buildings and other assets from the high heat exposure prevailing in wildfire conflagrations. The paint was developed by Australia’s Flame Security International (FSI) in partnership with The University of New South Wales (Sydney).
