LBM Research Institute recognizes excellence in door design
LAKEVILLE, MN – The LBM Research Institute has announced the winners in the 2010 Best in Class Awards (BICA) for the category of exterior doors. The winners include Therma-Tru® for fiberglass exterior doors, Simpson® Door Company for wood exterior doors and Masonite® for steel exterior doors.

“These companies are being recognized for their successful efforts relative to key purchase and experience drivers and satisfiers,” says John Cashmore, executive director of the LBM Research Institute. “Our unaided industry research clearly shows that Therma-Tru, Simpson Door Company and Masonite are the marketplace leaders in the exterior door category.”

The Best in Class Awards are designed to honor outstanding building product manufacturers nationwide in comparison studies to competitive companies. Survey participants are allowed to name --- without prompting or options provided --- the companies they choose as being the best in the industry in a variety of qualification categories.

“This unaided study is significant because it shows that these winning companies were ‘top-of-mind’ with their target audiences,” says Cashmore. “Survey participants ranked products on variables such as energy efficiency, product material, style assortment and consistency of product quality. The winning companies led the field in a wide range of attributes, including timely delivery of products, knowledgeable sales personnel, effective marketing support materials and overall satisfaction with product delivery.”

2010 is the first year that the LBM Research Institute has sponsored the BICA program. The exterior door winners are recognized in the September 2010 issue of LBM Journal. The LBM Research Institute plans additional BICA surveys in the categories of windows, roofing, siding and lumber.

“The results of this research demonstrate that Therma-Tru, Simpson Door Company and Masonite all manufacture exterior door products that are valued by dealers and distributors nationwide,” says Cashmore. “BICA recipients clearly know the importance of creating start-to-finish quality products and services for their customers. This award recognizes their excellence and serves as a goal for other companies.”

The LBM Research Institute performs original research on topics specific for lumber/building materials dealers and distributors. The LBM Research Institute is also available to conduct qualitative and quantitative studies, including focus groups, in-person and telephone surveys for companies nationwide.
