Despite the challenges of high costs, low consumer confidence and a sluggish housing market, the outlook is not necessarily pessimistic for closets and home organization providers, especially those serving the renovation market.
Home remodeling and maintenance expenditures are projected to remain steady through the end of this year and into the middle of 2026, according to the latest Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA), by the Remodeling Futures Program at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. The LIRA projects year-over-year spending on home renovation and repair will rise 2.4% in early 2026 before slowing to 1.9% in the third quarter. Total homeowner remodeling spending is expected to reach $524 billion in early 2026, a new record high.
Respondents to the Closets State of the Industry 2026 report are also bullish, with roughly two-thirds projecting better or much better sales compared to 2025. The single-family residential market (remodeling and new construction) remains a key driver of growth for the group, which named closet systems (79.3%), kitchens and baths (45.7%), and pantries (33.6%) as their three top selling project categories in 2025, followed by garage organization (30.2%) and laundry rooms (25.9%).
