While the broader market experienced a contraction according to the latest FDMC 300 data, the architectural woodwork/millwork and retail fixtures segments remained resilient, posting modest year-over-year growth. Published annually in April, the FDMC 300 tracks North America’s largest wood products manufacturers and ranks them by sales. (See about the FDMC 300, below.)
Combined 2025 sales for these 50-plus FDMC 300 manufacturers were roughly $3.5 billion ($1.5 billion architectural and $2.0 billion retail fixtures) compared to $3.2 billion in 2024, and accounted for 4.9 percent of this year’s FDMC 300 sales total of $71.4 billion.
Changes in the FDMC 300
Five new firms join the architectural millwork and retail segments of the FDMC 300: Beaubois Group (#220), Fixtur-World (#275), North American Specialty Laminations (NASL) (#180), OPTO International (#192), and The Horizon Group (#286). Dropped from the list were Wisconsin-based TJ Hale, which shuttered operations in February, and Connecticut-based Modern Woodcrafts, Div. of McKinnon Design, which closed last year.
Other changes of note:
- Arcline Build Group (#111) is the new group name for Montbleau Architectural Finishes, NWWI (Northwest Woodworks) and Buda Woodworks.
- Gaithersburg Architectural Millwork (#256) announced last July plans to invest $320,000 to expand a production line in Fauquier County, Virginia, allowing for the in-house production of metal components.
- Also in July 2025, NASL (#180) expanded its finishing capabilities following its acquisition of the Marceline, Missouri campus of kärvd, a millwork and moulding manufacturer.
- In addition to its headquarters in Montreal, Quebec, Artitalia Group (#106) officially incorporated in the United States, opening a headquarters in Ontario, California.
- In January 2026, Adams Group (#142) announced it acquired Mill-Rite Woodworking, a Florida-based commercial architectural woodwork firm specializing in high-end casework, fixtures, and mouldings for the retail, hospitality, and corporate sectors. Mill-Rite will operate as the Specialty Wood and Stone Division, expanding Adams Group’s vertically integrated capabilities and production.
Industry outlook
Many retailers anticipate growth despite some forecasts to the contrary. Commercial real estate analytics provider CoStar’s first-quarter U.S. retail construction data showing a year-over-year drop in space, from 70 million square feet last year to 64.2 million square feet in 2026. Offsetting announced closures and downsizing by major chains such as 7-Eleven, Chain Store Age’s March update expansion news lists, among others, Five Below’s plans for 150 stores, Dollar Tree’s 400 stores, Costco’s 28 new openings, and Bob’s Discount Furniture’s ambitious plans for 500-plus stores by 2035.
A majority of respondents to 2026 Retail TouchPoints Store Design & Experience Benchmark Survey are also bullish on expanding and renovating their store fleets, with 51% saying they plan to add up to 50 stores by the end of 2028. Another 12% plan to add 51 to 100 new sites. Renovations look strong, with 28% planning to renovate or remodel 11% to 25% of their store fleet, and 35% saying they plan to renovate or remodel 26% to 50% of their fleet by 2028.
On the architectural side, February’s architecture billings were close to flat, according to the AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index (ABI), which is an optimistic signal after several months of softness.
Using an index score of 50, February’s was 49.4, with billings weakest at firms in the Northeast (41.9), while firms in the Midwest (46.3) and West (47.2) reported moderate declines, and the South steady (50.0). A deeper dive shows commercial/industrial projects (45.7), institutional (49.2), and multifamily residential (48.9) projects all slightly below the index in February.
Looking ahead to the second quarter, 48% of responding firms in the ABI expect billings to remain about the same, 31% project their billings to increase by 5% or more, and 21% expect their billings to decrease by 5% or more. Of those surveyed, “Large firms with annual billings of $5 million or more (39%), firms located in the Midwest (38%) and South (36%), and firms with a commercial/industrial specialization (36%) were most likely to anticipate an increase in their billings in the coming months. Conversely, firms with annual billings of less than $1 million (28%) and those located in the Northeast (27%) were most likely to expect their billings to decline in the second quarter.”
While this bodes well for the retail fixture and architectural millwork manufacturers that supply these markets, challenges of labor recruitment, retention, and rising material costs look to continue.

About the FDMC 300
Now in its 40th year, the FDMC 300 is the woodworking industry’s oldest recognized ranking — by sales — of the largest North American manufacturers of cabinetry, furniture, architectural millwork, retail fixtures, home organization, windows/doors, components and other wood-related products.
Rankings for the FDMC 300 are based on the prior year’s sales information. Since many companies are privately owned, the number provided is considered an estimate unless otherwise designated by FY (Fiscal Year-Investor Relations report). Information is provided by companies or, in some cases, may be based on research or from recognized sources.
The 2026 FDMC 300 is sponsored by (in alphabetical order): Black Bros., Daubert Chemical, DVUV, IMA Schelling Group, Panel Processing Inc., Peak Toolworks, SATA , SWISS KRONO, and Vortex Tool Co.
The annual report was published in the April issue of FDMC magazine. Updates of data for FDMC 300 firms and the various industry segments are posted throughout the year at WoodworkingNetwork.com/FDMC300.
