Austin, Texas - The U.S. Green Building Council has formally presented Coventry Homes with certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.
The LEED certification was awarded on Sept. 28 in a ceremony at the Coventry Homes model home in the Austin, Texas master-planned community of Sweetwater.
All home builders in the community are required to meet nationally recognized green building standards. Coventry chose to build its line of homes to the LEED for Homes guidelines.
“From the moment we began planning Sweetwater, we knew we wanted energy efficiency and environmental sensitivity to be part of the DNA of this beautiful community,” said Mike Rafferty, regional director for Wheelock Street Land. “We’re very proud of our partner Coventry Homes for joining us in this commitment.”
The LEED for Homes guidelines require independent, third-party verification that the homes were designed and built with the goal of performing better in the areas of health and environmental stewardship.
