The ROBA Orbital from MB Maschinenbau GmbH is designed for customers who manufacture Shaker design cabinet doors with recessed center panels made of MDF. This type of production creates many milling lines in the area of the center panel, which always holograph through a PVC foil or lacquer layer.

Wood-based cabinet doors face different obstacles. For example, veneered center panels, raw or painted, need smooth sanding to guarantee a top surface, framed doors need a cross-grain removal.

The ROBA Orbital is equipped with two sanding units, whereby the unit with the rectangular sanding pad is intended for the center panel and the unit with the round sanding pad is intended for the top rails. This ensures that MDF doors are free of milling lines, veneered center panels are neither raw nor painted rough, cabinet doors receive an intermediate varnish sanding, or cross grain scratches are removed from the frame rails.

Three tables ensure a high output because they work independently: one table is loaded, one table is processing the door, and one table is emptied. This creates a constant workflow with high output in a safe and dust-free environment.

The workpiece and rail width measurements are carried out separately and automatically for each table. Long parts, such as interior doors, are processed simultaneously by the three orbital units, while the three tables are electronic coupled in the Y direction.

Fresh sanding discs are added automatically coming from the tool changer in the back of the work table.

ROBA Orbital advantages summarized:

  • sand rails and recessed panels of cabinet doors
  • sand flat panels and cabinet doors
  • sand interior doors
  • sand and MDF, solid wood & base coat
  • remove cross grain scratches
