A can’t-miss educational lineup will draw forward-thinking woodworkers to Wood Pro Expo Florida, June 11-13 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The co-located event, combined with Closets Conference & Expo, features unique and exciting educational sessions in both closets and woodworking tracks that are available to all attendees.
The goal is to bring woodworkers from all areas of the industry presentations that can help them learn new trends, plan for the future, assist them with their day-to-day operations and boost their success.
“If a woodworking shop can bring something back to their company, something impactful, we have done our jobs as stewards,” said Ryan Wagner, publisher of FDMC magazine.
Speakers include Chuck Ross, talking about business exit planning strategies, and Paul Mencel, sharing how to make the most of your time in your business.
“These are guaranteed to be some of the most thought-provoking presentations we have ever had at Wood Pro Expo Florida, as we have heard from our feedback from Wood Pro Lancaster this past fall,” said Wagner. “We are adding to this by bringing in one of the best furniture designers, a true woodworker, thought leader, and influencer to the event in Matt Buell, owner of M. Buell Studio.”
Buell has been working with young woodworkers for many years, including acting as host and coach for Woodworking Network’s Young Wood Pro competition and education program, sponsored by Grizzly Industrial.
Buell’s down-to-earth, free-flowing personality, coupled with an immaculate attention to detail, is what drives his passion for helping people grow in this industry. He loves to take on any challenge that can be thrown at him, including working with new and innovative materials. It is this constant thought process for the new and challenging that makes his presentation so essential.
His presentation uses simple approaches to process, and equipment, to achieve outside-the-box thinking for any size shop. He believes that everything, including correct purchasing, not overthinking design, and correct shop setup, can all be very simple keys to success.
His evidence is in his own personal achievement, as he has created an award-winning successful business on the family farm in rural Arkansas. The projects come to him from all over the country. Equipment and material needs change for every project, and his role in each project also changes; he has no problem getting his hands dirty. Similarly, how each project flows through his shop can vary depending on requirements. To say he is a juggler would be an understatement.
In his presentation, Buell shares his practical and pragmatic approach to each project that keeps everything in check, the project on target, and his business a success. His passion doesn’t end there, as he is now using his platform to help educate the industry not only as a presenter at events, but as a contributing author for the Woodworking Network. Each month he continues to interview, teach, and more fittingly coach on his methods, identifying problems and creating beautiful solutions.
Buell was recognized as a member of Woodworking Network’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2018. His work appears in fine homes, commercial businesses, and in public buildings such as the Fayetville, Arkansas, City Council Chambers. His work also has been displayed in galleries in New York, Chicago, Boston, and Los Angeles, where Katrien Van der Schueren of voila! Creative Studio counts herself a fan.
“Matt Buell’s work is incredibly intriguing,” she said. “As an artist, he uses wood as a medium to translate its qualities into form and functionality. His mastery of refines is exceptional in his trade. He is like a magician, only his magic is made by brute force of turning a block of wood into elegance and rhythm in a way I have rarely seen.”
As a freelance furniture designer, he also has worked behind the scenes with large companies to bring his designs to well-known larger chain store showrooms across the country.
