Started in a garage shop with an Etsy outlet, the Philadelphia Table Co. today is a growing customer furniture business with 15 employees and a beautiful showroom.

Paul Mencel is a custom furniture designer and builder who has taken his craft to the next level, growing his business from a garage shop to more than 8,000 square feet and 15 employees. He’ll share his experience and business advice in a keynote presentation at the Wood Pro Expo Florida in June.

Paul Mencel will share how he developed a thriving custom furniture business as part of the Wood Pro Expo Florida in June.

Mencel’s goal is to build timeless, quality furniture that hits specific needs. Starting with just an Etsy presence, Philadelphia Table Co. now has matured to a beautifully designed showroom and a production team that skilled workers want to join. He is anxious to share the secrets of his success with the rest of the world. He delivered a very well-received talk at the Wood Pro Expo Lancaster in October and scored well with an interview on the Woodworking Network Podcast, so it only made sense to bring him to Florida for another enlightening session.

Set for June 11-13 in West Palm Beach, Florida, at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, this is a joint event between Wood Pro Expo Florida and the Closet Conference and Expo, pairing the thriving woodworking industry with the fastest growing building segment of closets and organization. The event showcases the latest products, best practices, and newest trends, creating a worthwhile experience for anyone who intends to grow their business and network with the industry’s best.

Mencel will share his vision of helping companies with their manufacturing process, incorporating technology, and more efficient management of their operation. He believes that correct management is the key to driving a business to the next level. While he prides himself on his success, he knows that every experience is a learning one and having the right support system is important. For example, he describes how he left daily production to focus on business management. “I’m the weakest link,” he said. “So, I think it makes the most sense for me to go into the office.”

Becoming a teacher of his craft is a bright light into his future plans and sharing his message to other woodworkers and business professionals drives him. He believes that those who seek out knowledge from others hold the key to success, and he wants to help them in anyway he can.
