Seven projects by leading interior design firms were selected as the 2016 IIDA Interior Design Competition winners including the Newell Rubbermaid Design Center located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The project was designed by the Perkins+Will firm and features a prominent ash wood latticework canopy with a clear finish.

The storage and tool manufacturer opened the 40,000 square foot state-of-the-art design center in 2014.

This year marked the 43rd celebration of the annual event that honors outstanding, innovative Interior Design/Interior Architecture and encourages new ideas and techniques in the design and furnishings of interior spaces. The competition is sponsored by the International Interior Design Associaiton and Interior Design magazine.

Judges included Mari Balestrazzi, Hyatt Hotels vice president of design; Anne Cunningham, Anne Cunningham, IIDA, Assoc. AIA, NBBJ principal; and Scott Hierlinger, Scott Hierlinger, FIIDA, LEED AP, Nelson design director.

The seven winners will be honored on June 12 at a black-tie gala, which will kick-off the 2016 NeoCon trade show being held in Chicago at the Merchandise Mart, June 13-15.
