During a reflective night at a tavern, an enterprising woodcrafter figured out how to cash in on an unmet need for the beard-growing set: toothy wooden combs, hand cut and branded with a stylish logo.

Social media and artful packaging have helped Kyle Malone's Albuquerque business take off. In addition to the beard combs, grooming aids such as Stache Lube and Beard Oil are sold, and all can be artfully packaged in slide-top wood boxes

"Big Wood Beard Combs was thought of and created in January '15 while enjoying a rare porterhouse and drinking a few glasses of whiskey," says founder Kyle Malone. "Late that night, armed with a hand saw and file, the first Big Wood Beard Comb was created. These strong, handmade combs are the perfect size to carry with you."

Malone's marketing efforts are helped by his other career, owner of Kinfolk Advertising & Branding. And his other other career is nice, too: he heads a rock band.
