They opened their Austin, TX shop last year following a stint with local builder Dow Construction, where they learned trim and finish carpentry under Steve Bass.

Launching a Kickstarter campaign, the Welborns tried to raise $5,000 - but came up short. Nevertheless, the two are building custom furniture, while also marketing their growing business - including the star turn on HGTV's Flipping the Block, a reality show with teams competing in home remodeling projects - room by room. While other teams consisted of designers, the Welborn twins brought the advantage of hands-on skills in a woodshop and carpentry. But the two are also designers. Here's their philosophy:

Color, texture, light, functionality – details like these are the cornerstones of designing and building custom fixtures that are as creative and unique as our clients are.

At Welborn Woodworks, we offer a combination of traditional and modern furniture designs. We pride ourselves in the added storage, security, and functionality of our pieces. We work with our clients step by step to develop a comprehensive understanding of their unique design needs so that satisfaction is guaranteed for every client.

Good design brings continuity, function, and beauty to a living or working space, whether it’s a 1000-square-foot loft or a rambling country estate. A typical project includes a myriad of our services: furniture design & build, interior design, & quality craftsmanship & client service.

In the episodes we watched, the twins didn't win, but they clearly had a great attitude and had a lot of fun. www.welbornwoodworking.com
