October cabinet sales continue slide: KCMA Trend of Business report

RESTON, Va. – Cabinet manufacturers reported overall sales of were down 3.4% for October compared to the same month in 2023, with two out of three segments in negative figures, according to the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association's October Trend of Business report

Survey respondents reported overall sales of $228.7 million for October 2024. In the year-over-year comparison, custom sales were up 5.3% to $60.6 million, while semi-custom dropped 4.6% to $127.7 million  and stock sales fell 10.9%, to $40.3 million. Their cabinet quantity for the month was 583,694, down 13.3% to  compared to October 2023 figures.

For the month-over-month sales comparison, survey respondents again reported decreases in two out of three segments, although the segments differ from those in the year-over-year comparison. Custom sales were down 3.1% and semi-custom fell 1.7%, while stock sales increased 15.4%. There was a 1.6% increase in cabinet quantity compared to September figures.

Looking at the year-to-date numbers in a year-over-year comparison, both quantity and sales were down.  Participants' sales through October 2024 were $2.3 billion, down 2.8% from 2023 year-to-date figures. Custom sales dropped 4.4%, semi-custom declined 2.1% and stock dipped 2.6%. Cabinet quantity for the year to date also decreased 6.0% over the same time period last year, to 6.3 million, according to survey participants.

For the overall cabinet market, estimated sales for October were $940.0 million and estimated sales for the year to date were $10.9 billion. Cabinet quantity for the overall market was 37.1 million.

The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) represents kitchen cabinet and bath vanity manufacturers and key suppliers of goods and services to the industry. KCMA has been compiling and reporting industry sales data for more than 40 years.
