RESTON, Va. – Manufacturers reported a drop in overall cabinet sales for September, down 5.4% compared to the year prior, with all three segments showing a decline. September sales were also down compared to August, by 4.3%, with again all three segments in negative figures, according to the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association's September Trend of Business report.
Survey respondents reported overall sales of $227.393 million for September. In the year-over-year comparison, custom sales were down 2.6% to $62.557 million, semi-custom dropped 4.2% to $129.883 million and stock sales fell 13.8%, to $34.953 million. Cabinet quantity for the month by those reporting dropped 13.8% compared to September 2023 figures.
For the month over month sales comparison, survey respondents reported decreases in all three segments. Custom sales were down 2.4%, semi-custom fell 2.6% and stock sales dropped 13.0%. There was a 3.7% decline in cabinet quantity compared to August figures.
All three segments also dropped in the year-to-date, year-over-year comparison. Custom sales dropped 5.4%, semi-custom declined 1.8% and stock dipped 1.6%; overall sales by responding companies for the year to date were $2.1 billion, a 2.7% decrease compared to the same period last year. Cabinet quantity for the year to date also decreased 5.2% over the same time period last year, to 5.7 million, for those responding to the survey.
Estimated overall market sales for September were $975.0 million and estimated sales for the year to date for the overall market were $9.9 billion.
The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) represents kitchen cabinet and bath vanity manufacturers and key suppliers of goods and services to the industry. KCMA has been compiling and reporting industry sales data for more than 40 years.
