RESTON, Va. – Cabinet sales rebounded in July, up 7.5% compared to a year ago, although down 6.9% compared to June figures, according to the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association's July Trend of Business report. Sales were up in all three categories for year-over-year, but dropped in the month-over-month comparison.
Survey respondents reported overall sales of $230.043 million for July. In the year-over-year comparison, custom sales were up 8.1% to $61.075 million, semi-custom rose 8.7% to $131.435 million and stock sales were up 2.7% to $37.533 million. Cabinet quantity for the month was 576,550, a slight decrease of 1.4% compared to July 2023 figures.
For the month over month sales comparison, survey respondents reported custom sales dropped 7.5%, semi-custom 7.0% and stock sales down 5.4%. There was a 17.9% decline in cabinet quantity compared to June figures.
Similar to the last couple months, stock cabinetry was again the only category to show sales gains in the year-to-date, year-over-year comparison. Stock sales through July 2024 were up 1.3% compared to 2023, while custom sales dropped 6.7% and semi-custom declined 1.7%; overall sales by responding companies for the year to date were $1.655 billion, a 2.5% decrease compared to the same period last year. Cabinet quantity for the year to date was 4.535 million, a decrease of 2.9% over the same time period last year.
Estimated overall market sales for July were $995.0 million and estimated sales for the year to date for the overall market were $7.9 billion.
The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) represents kitchen cabinet and bath vanity manufacturers and key suppliers of goods and services to the industry. KCMA has been compiling and reporting industry sales data for more than 40 years.
