How to work with homebuilders
Hardwood driven by surging home construction
LAS VEGAS - Connecting with interior designers, architects and builders can open the door to numerous business opportunities, especially when it comes to collaborating on model homes.

Patty Miller, a master designer and co-founder of Boutique Closets and Cabinetry, will present "How to work with Interior Designers, Builders and Get in Model Homes:  Learn how to collaborate with interior designers and builders and how to get your products into model homes" during the 2019 AWFS Closets Symposium. The all-day event will take place July 16 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The discussion will include:
  • How to get in the market
  • Why it is worth it
  • Current referral fees
  • How to make it worth it to the builder
Miller has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in interior design from Kean University. And in 1989 she founded and was principal designer of Patricia Miller Interiors, specializing in residential and commercial interior design. She spent several years designing high-end model homes and properties for Toll Brothers.

In her residential projects, closets started to become larger and an important feature in the home. Clients wanted more than the typical rod and shelf in their closets, so Miller decided to learn the ins-and-outs of designing custom closets.

She took a part time job at the Closet Factory where she learned basic closet design. That started her passion for closets. From there she worked part time in outside sales for several closet companies that would allow her to create completely custom closet designs. She designed closets for her own clients as well as the companies’ clients.

Having experience in interior design and alternative resources it allowed her to think outside the box designing closets and offering services beyond just cabinetry design. That expertise led to designing closets that included upholstered doors, custom painted islands, custom window treatments and cushions, carpet and lighting.

After several years of designing high-end custom closets, she took a position from 2017-2019 at Direct Cabinet Sales managing their closet division. In January 2019 she left Direct Cabinet Sales and co-founded Boutique Closets and Cabinetry with Wendy Scott, ACSP president.

Miller is also a member of the ACSP and has earned the industry’s highest standard of proficiency in closet design principles and is a master storage designer. She has won five Top Shelf Awards and has had projects featured in several magazines.
