Birch vs. Alder Panels: Stain and Character-Mark Preferences

Edge-glued panels can be manufactured for a variety of end uses such as furniture and kitchen cabinets, or as standard-sized blanks. The production of edge-glued panels maximizes resources by using lower grades or character-marked lumber, including paper birch and red alder lumber. Both paper birch and red alder are small diameter hardwoods, with rotation ages typically about 80 years or less in the United States. Thus, much of this resource has high levels of knots and other character mark features.

Bush rebrands GSA product lines

JAMESTOWN, NY-- Bush Industries Inc., a manufacturer of ready-to-assemble home and office furniture, announced that its office furniture products offered to the GSA market have been rebranded under BBF (Bush Business Furniture) and Workplace Solutions by Bush Furniture. Currently, Bush has four product lines offered to federal government customers through the GSA Federal Supply Schedule and through individual state schedules. In addition to the current product offerings, Bush also has plans to offer other new products to the GSA market next year.
